Day 10 - July 10, 2003

We were exhausted from staying up the night before to watch the movie, so we basically slept in.  We woke up with just enough time to get ready for our brunch reservation at Palo.  This was the first time we had brunch twice on the ship, but since the first time was with the DIS bunch, I wanted Seth and Sara to experience it.  We had Andrew as our server again.  I was going to try something else, but enjoyed the Eggs Julia so much, had it again, as did Seth.   Judy had the pancakes and Sara had the pasta dish. I had wanted to try it too, but didn't want to give up my eggs, so Andrew made me a side dish.

We were quite full after brunch and Seth complained that he can't eat so much food so early.  We went up to deck 9 and the adult pool.  The day was the only cloudy day we had and it was a bit windy, perhaps coming from Claudette.  Elana and I went into the pool, but I quickly got out and headed for the hot tub, where Andy had just entered. As a matter of fact, both hot tubs seemed to be dominated by DIS folks, as Dana and Lisa were in the other one.  Denise joined us shortly after and Dana and Lisa stopped by to chat, where Judy and I educated them about DVC.

We went back to the room and quickly showered for High Tea.  This had been arranged for us by Denise, prior to the cruise and we once again had the private room.  The group was a little bigger this time with Jeanne and John, Wendy and Doreen, Shelley and Jay, Amy (Jesse decided to stay and try his luck at bingo) and two DIS folks we had not yet met on board, Sue and Audrey.  I was too full from brunch, but enjoyed the tea immensely.  It was more of a time to socialize.  The one surprising thing was that the main part of Palo was empty, except for one occupied table, yet if you tried to get a reservation after boarding, you were told it was full.  High tea is free and it is too easy for people to cancel.  Disney has to figure out a better way of dealing with cancelled reservations so that people who are on the waitlist get a chance.  A person who is on the waitlist and has the early seating is already in dinner by the time they could get notified.

Top row: Andy, Sue (sjbakerus), Audrey (ablyinpgva),  Wendy (wendym), Jay, Sandy (gometros), John
Bottom row: Amy (luv2boys), Denise (eye R.N.), Doreen, Shelley (sbennet), Judy, Jeanne (jeanneg)

After tea, Judy and I went back to the room to get ready for dinner.  As we were getting ready, Seth knocked on the door and Judy opened it to find him standing in the doorway with this stupid grin.  He had split a $1200 jackpot at bingo with another guest and came to tell us the good news. Today was the Captain's Gala and was the semi-formal night.  There weren't as many tuxes as on Monday night.  I wore a suit this time and I saw many more men in jackets.  Of course tonight was lobster night, which I had. Everyone else had the Pan-fried Halibut.  Sandor was funny, after he removed the lobster from the shell, he walked away with the meat, leaving the shell behind!  The kids loved the lava cake, Judy and I had the ice cream sundae, while Seth had the Amaretto cheesecake.

The show tonight was Disney Dreams.  we enjoyed the show as always.  The only thing that annoyed me was that so many people ignored the request not to take flash pictures. DO they have any idea how dangerous it is to the performers, not to say anything about how unfair it is to other guests?  After the show, we went to the adult cabaret to watch the Hill Brothers perform.  We had seen them on our last cruise.  They are a very funny juggling act and I won't tell you anything about it, since there are some neat surprises in the show.  So don't axe.

We stayed for the 70s night and Que had some real hams to deal with for the Gloria Gaynor and John Travolta contest.  I think one of the Travolta wannabes thought he was in Chippendales and not on the Disney Magic.  You might say that there was more cheesecake than just in the dessert buffet. All in all we had ourselves a good laugh.  When the band started to play, we left to check out the midnight dessert buffet with Amy.  Mind you , our intent was only to see the setup, but somehow it was hard to go into Lumiere's and not sample some of the desserts.  We then went to the Internet Cafe, so that I could check my mail and ended up chatting for an hour before going to bed.

Tomorrow is Castaway Cay and we're expecting clear skies and weather in the mid 80s.

We bit the bullet and booked the August 7, 2004 cruise while on board. There were some good specials for the new 7 day itineraries from August through October, plus the 10 day cruise and we couldn't resist. I've already started a new thread.
