Friday, July 7, 2000 - Day 10 Today was the day that the girls were going home. Everyone got up early, we had breakfast at the food court and the girls were on the road by 10:30. With the girls gone, Seth and I headed over to MGM . We got there at around 11:30 and headed right for the Tower of Terror to get our Fast Pass. Not a bad wait, our time to return was 12:45pm. So, we went over to the Great Movie Ride. There was absolutely no line, not even winding around inside. I should be glad, but since I still believe this is such a classic ride and a symbol of what MGM stands for, I hate to see it so ignored. I asked one of the CMs about the rumors about its projected closing, but although they've heard the same rumors, they knew nothing more. We got the cowboy scene for a change. We still had plenty of time, so we headed over to Muppet Vision 3-D and arrived just about as the pre-show was ending. We spent some time reading the stuff on the fences outside. I've always read the crazy stuff on the boxes and props inside the preshow, but never took the time to read what was on the outside. Check it out sometime. We headed back to Tower of Terror. I'm sorry, I miss the old TOT when there were fewer drops, but they were longer. You knew when you saw the gray wall in front of you, you were in for a long fall. Thank goodness for Fast Pass, as we walked on the return line, we passed a Brazilian tour group of a zillion teenage girls. After TOT, we got our Fast Pass for Rock 'n Roller Coaster. The time to return was 2:50, so we had some time to kill, just not enough to go on another ride. We got a couple of iced teas at the Commissary. Seth wanted to check out Pizza Planet to see what kind of arcade it was. We spent a few minutes in there, but didn't play any games. As we were walking back toward Rock 'n Roller Coaster, we heard some music coming from New York Street. We walked around the corner and listened to the Hollywood Hitmen - three trumpets, a trombone, bass, keyboards and percussion. They were playing some Stevie Wonder standards and then broke into Birdland. Seth played in a jazz ensemble in high school (trumpet) and performed Birdland this past year, so it was particularly appropriate. These guys were good.
