Friday, July 2, 1999 - Day 7
| (Out Saga continues as the Canetti
Family leaves their home away from home for the southern comfort of Dixie Landings.) When
it comes to packing and unpacking, nobody beats Judy in efficiency. She had us pretty much
packed up last night, so all we had to do was to load the car and we left OKW. Our method
is to let the kids bring everything out, while I pack the car. While I was waiting
outside, I noticed that there was a lot of construction going on in building 42. I asked
one of the workers what they were doing and he told me it was regular maintenance. They
were updating the plumbing, fixtures and other maintenance. Its good to see our
common charges being applied.
We drove to EPCOT to finish up stuff we hadnt seen yet. I decided to forgo the
ECV today and try walking with one crutch to keep the weight off of the foot. We first
went to Universe of Energy. Then over to the Wonder of Life for Cranium Command and
Body Wars. Its funny, I remembered Body Wars being rougher than Star
Tours, but now it didnt seem as rough. Elana wanted to try Test Track, so we
decided to see how the line looked. I told her we would only do it if she would do the
singles line with us. I explained exactly what that meant and she agreed. The wait was 75
minutes, so we happily volunteered for the singles line and found ourselves right at the
door with only a German family in front of us. As we got to the boarding area, the CM firs
pointed to Seth for one spot, then Elana for the next. She announced she didnt want
to go alone and pushed Sara ahead of her. I reminded her of what we agreed, but just at
that moment, the CM pushed Elana and me to adjoining spots for the same car, so all worked
out well. Elana like it so much, she wanted to go again, but I told her next time.
We left EPCOT to check into Dixie Landings. Our check in CM was Tonya, a college intern
from Eastern Michigan. She was so helpful in trying to find us a corner room. She pulled
out a site plan and as each room popped up on her screen, she would check the plan to see
if it was a corner. We got room 5709 in Magnolia Terrace. It was convenient, because it
faced the parking lot.
Before going to the room, we had a late lunch at the Colonels Cotton Mill. We
then went to the room and unloaded. I have to say that while I like to try different
resorts (this was our first time in Dixie Landings), its hard to do after staying in
OKW. Everything pales in comparison. The rooms are about the same size as Coronado
Springs, but where there was room on the floor in the corner between the TV and the sinks
for Seth in Coronado Springs, there wasnt in Dixie Landings. But, the corner room,
with windows on two sides, while no bigger than a inside room, does look bigger and is a
great suggestion.
We werent really close to a bus stop where we
were, so we drove to Animal Kingdom. I was hoping to see the Tarzan Rocks! Soft
opening. We got there at 4:30 and promptly headed toward Dinoland, only to be greeted at
the bridge by CMs telling us the show was full. So, disappointed, we headed to Africa and
the Kilamanjaro Safari. The ride was a walk on. For the first time I can remember,
we ran into the two most unfriendly CMs I ever saw. We were trying to organize our party,
since we couldnt all sit in one seat. The one CM directed us to rows tow and three.
Judy misheard her and started to go to the first row and the other CM sternly said
something to the effect that "she said two and three." Well, excu-use me. I
didnt understand why we couldnt sit in the front row and was even more
confused when another couple was directed into it. Anyway, the driver was good and lots of
animals were out.
After they safari, we did the Pangani Gorilla Trail.
Big mistake on my part, just too much walking. But, Im glad I did it. I like the way
the trail is set up. You can get so close to the animals. And three of the gorillas were
out. Judy wanted the kids to see Conservation Station, but I couldnt walk anymore,
so I waited in Harambi while they went on. I sat in the shade on the stone benches by the
Tusker House and happily watched the people walk by. |

| It was past 7:00
and someone asked me to take a picture of her and her daughter, just as Judy and the kids
showed up. We left Animal Kingdom and decided that we would go to Crossroads for a lite
bite. We ate at Perkins Pancake House and had breakfast for dinner. Then we went to
Downtown Disney and had dessert at Ghiradellis. Judy did some shopping and the World of
Disney while I sat and read. We also checked out the Lego figures. The kids with grandpa in his natural position.
Wait! It's not grandpa |
