Tuesday, June 29, 1999 - Day 4

(As our Saga continues, the Canetti family, have spent three days in the world, visiting EPCOT, Animal Kingdom and the Magic Kingdom)

Getting out of the room has become more difficult as I’ve really enjoyed eating breakfast and reading on the back porch of the room. The picture of the view we enjoyed shows why.

I was told that a good day to visit Disney Quest was on a Monday or Tuesday, so we decided to give it a go today. We were out of the room by 10:30 and saw the Downtown Disney bus pulling away as we approached the circle. Another bus arrived about 10 minutes later. For future reference I asked the bus driver how many busses run during the day per location and he told me two.  Knowing that helps me decide whether I would take the bus or drive to any particular park.

We used bought our passes and took the elevator up to the third floor. Even the elevators in Disney Quest are an experience as the Genie from Aladdin flashed on a wall and welcomed us to DQ. We decided to do the family stuff first, before splitting up and so we rode the Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters first, bubble-top bumper cars with cannons you use to shoot the other cars. Seth and me pairing off, Judy and Elana and Sara riding by herself. After Buzz, we did the Mighty Ducks Pinball Slam, while Judy watched. I enjoyed that one. It sure gives you an aerobic workout! We competed on the racing cars two times before we decided to split up. The girls going one way, while Seth and I went to check out the virtual reality games. We did Ride The Comix! And then Invasion! An ExtraTERROestrial. The latter really needs a party of four to be effective. There were two kids in front of us and we talked about going together, but when the CM asked them how many they were, they said two and got put in a separate room. As far as Comic go, I had never experienced virtual reality before, but having played Dungeons & Dragons in my earlier years, it was definitely cool acting out a sword adventure. I was determined not to look wimpy like some of the people before me, who looked more like they were diving for water, than wielding a sword.

We were getting hungry and I definitely wanted to try the Cheesecake factory and with us separated from the girls, now was the time to sneak upstairs to indulge. Seth and I split a Chocolate Mouse slice and a Chocolate Cookie Dough slice and while I felt guilty at this terrible excursion off of my diet, I’ll get over it. However, we got caught as Judy and the girls appeared just as we were finishing up.

Elana and Sara joined Seth and me for two more times on Invasion. Seth drove the last time and we had our best outing with him as driver. We actually got back safely (don’t ask who was driving the other two times J

While we were separated, Sara did CyberSpace Mountain and Elana did the Animation class. She got frustrated with the pen, since it didn’t respond the way she expected it. This was E-Ride night and we all had intended to rest during the day, but we were having so much fun, Judy and Elana went back to the room while Seth, Sara and I stayed and did the Virtual Jungle Cruise. We left at 3:30 and headed back to OKW.

Judy, Sara, Elana and I had a chance to rest while Seth went to Turtle Shack. We left the room at 4:30 for our 5:00 priority seating at Chef Mickey’s, driving to the Contemporary Inn. Something new has been added since the last time we ate there, before you get seated, they take family photos with a mock up of Chef Mickey and Minnie. Our server was Jim and we enjoyed the meal as usual. The prime rib was cooked to a perfect medium rare.

After dinner, we headed over to the Magic Kingdom. I thought my foot was feeling better, so I decided to forgo the ECV. We stopped at City Hall to get our bracelets for E-Ride night. The CM told me that only 3,000 tickets were sold, so I knew we were in for a good night. We started working our way around the kingdom in Adventureland, where we took in the New Enchanted Tiki Birds. Then we did the River Cruise. It’s funny how times have changed. This used to have one of the longest lines in the parks and now you can just walk onto it. I think the last time we did the cruise, we were wearing our winter coats, as it was nighttime in a very cold December. We finished Adventureland by riding Pirates of the Caribbean.

It was getting near 9:00 and I wanted to get out of the parade route, so we headed to Liberty Square and rode the Haunted Mansion. There was some confusion here, since the E-Ride brochure we were handed was still showing Pirates as one of the rides and not the Haunted Mansion. This was one of the few times I actually waited on a line for it.

Fantasyland was next and we rode Small World, Peter Pan, and Snow White in order. We were about to get on line for the Carousel, but they closed it temporarily for the fireworks. It did put us in position for another great view of the fireworks. After they ended, we rode the Carousel and headed back to Adventureland to catch the Country Bear Jamboree. Judy wanted a frozen fruit, so she picked one up on the way. She couldn’t finish it in time for the show to start, so we sat in the waiting area while she finished it and went in for the next show which was the start of E-Ride night.

With E-Ride night in full swing, we started our attack. First we rode Splash Mountain. Shortly after the ride started, it stopped and we got the announcement about experiencing difficulties and all Seth and I could think was "oh, no, not again!" (see my December report.) But it started up in about five minutes and we were happily on our way to our laughing place. Did I forget to mention I was in the front with Sara? I got wet.

After Splash Mountain, we rode Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. We then headed back to Tomorrowland. Two CMs were blocking the connection between Adventureland and Liberty Square and, directing us back toward the hub. I was decidedly not happy about this and this was the first time I sort of argued (it more like meek whining), since my foot start hurting me again. In retrospect, I suspect that it’s actually a shorter difference to do it this way. Maybe our queen of the pedometer can verify this. We all did Buzz Lightyear a few times. Seth and Sara wanted to ride Space Mountain, but I wasn’t in the mood so I stay on Buzz with Elana. All in all, I rode Buzz six times, Elana rode it an extra two times while Seth, Sara and I rode Astro Orbitor. This is the first time I ever rode this ride and have E-Ride night to thank for it, since I would never stand on line to wait to ride it during normal hours. For those of you who never rode it, thin k Dumbo two stories in the air. As we got off of the orbiter, it was 2:00, so we headed back to the Contemporary to get the car and were back in the room, happy and tired, by 2:30.
